12th June Abstract : Taking into consideration the existing sites context within Auckland City, the fabric of sleep urges recognition of the senses. A biological thread runs through each of these projects. Only in project three, however, does this thread come to fruition, highlighting the warmth of this strangers body within a purposefully cold space. Taking a more performative and artistic approach to its beginings, by no mean is it a recreation of your typical bedroom environment. Comfort is challenged in a space with no soft furnishings. Instead, taking cues from the curtain this project began from, a draping sculptural typology emerges. Soft curves envelop the interior, a sculptural marble world. Thinly sliced, this material choice allows translucency. There are no doors within the interior, instead only partitions of this marble. The two bodies exist on the same plane. Emerging as an interior of quiet repose, and heightened connection to the domestic bedroom, this world is a threshold, caught between the folds.
