Reflective statement: It has been interesting creating a surface design and scaling it up to a more human perspective. I have found that working with colour was perhaps the hardest part, but through tessellating my ideas in different ways it has shown me how creative you can get with the surface treatments.
Reflective statement: in beginning with the sensuous curves of Judes Raes nexus paintings, I knew my surfaces had to capture this rhythmic and medatative quality. I used material itself, in the first two surfaces. one makes use of its ability to move, the other uses glue to fix the Folds in place, capturing them in Time. In a less obvious material choice, I used petals, their crisp white and delicate texture to me is closely linked to the textures of linen. atmospheric photographs using light to extend the surface. I wanted to use very dramatic lighting to deepen the theatrical experience. Coming from beneath the surface, it is as though it is a beating heart. it is alive and fluid…all of our surfaces !
