Week 1: Material Mapping

Gathering material began with an interrogation of my own ritual walk. Aware of the historic housing in Devonport, I adapted it slightly to follow the trail of a mapped council walk of significant sites. These sites contain the dwellings of influential Shore-based authors through time. The following materials result from observation around these sites, and others gathered from elsewhere.

Scoria rocks. Collected from beneath a power line.
Brass. Scrap from previous work.
Copper. Scrap from previous work.
Hair. My mothers and my own.
Salt (loose & lick). Purchased from farm source.
Wood (misc). Scrap foraged for through renovation skip.
Kauri. From renovation, gifted by my brother.
Rimu. From renovation, gifted by my brother.
Miscellaneous debris. Foraged whilst walking.
Steel. Scrap from renovation. Gifted by my best friend’s mother.
Bricks. Collected from stockpile underneath my house.
